L’odyssée musicale de Kate Bush

K ate Bush burst onto the music scene as a teenager in 1978, when she topped the charts with her song Wuthering Heights. With the song’s unconventional lyrics inspired by Emily Brontë, her eclectic musical style and avant-garde performances, she made an immediate impact. After releasing several successful albums, Bush took a break from music to raise her son in the early 2000s and became an elusive, almost mythical figure.

But another surprise phase of her career came in May 2022 when her 1985 hit Running Up That Hill was used on the soundtrack of Netflix drama Stranger Things; it reached the top of the iTunes charts in the USA, became the most-streamed song globally on Spotify, as well as the most Shazam-ed song in history. Sonia Gonzalez tells the story of Bush’s life and career in this documentary, and explains how she has managed to transcend eras and musical trends, and why her music has such appeal to Generation Z, who weren’t born in the first phase of her career.

Following the screening, director Sonia Gonzalez will join us for a Q&A.
